Comfort food with 5 minutes of prep?!
Sounds like a weeknight dinner win to me! I didn’t really grow up with a lot of comfort food, it just wasn’t how my mom cooked, but I’ve come to appreciate it.
And this crockpot chicken and gravy is the epitome of comfort food. Tender chicken is cooked in a flavorful (and easy!!) mix of Italian dressing seasoning and chicken gravy. It’s fall-apart tender and delicious served over your carb of choice.
🍗 Seriously delicious: Fall-apart tender chicken with rich, creamy gravy that tastes like you spent hours perfecting it.
🥄 Made with simple ingredients: Made with just three basic pantry staples and chicken thighs.
⏰ Hands-off cooking: Just a few minutes of prep, then the crockpot does all the work.
👨👩👧👦 Family-approved: Classic and mild flavors that can work for everyone.
💰 Budget-friendly: Uses affordable cuts of chicken to create a hearty meal that feeds the whole family.
📅 Perfect for meal prep: Leftovers reheat beautifully throughout the week.

Ingredient Notes
You’ll need just a handful of ingredients to make this simple crockpot chicken: chicken thighs (skinless, boneless), Italian dressing mix, prepared chicken gravy, and cream cheese. You’ll also want to serve the meal over something like egg noodles, rice, or mashed potatoes.
- Italian Dressing Mix: This is a dry mix packet for Italian dressing that you can find in your local grocery store in the salad dressing section. Here’s an organic version if you prefer.
- Chicken Gravy: I used a jarred chicken gravy, but cream of chicken soup could also work, though it may have a slightly different flavor. You could also use homemade gravy, store-bought gravy, chicken gravy mix, or gravy packets. You’ll need 1 1/2 cups of prepared gravy.

Emily’s Tips & Tricks
- Pro tip: Use chicken thighs instead of breasts as they stay incredibly tender during long cooking and add more flavor to the gravy.
- Feeding kids without pressure: Put a tiny portion of chicken and gravy mixture in a small taster bowl so they can “test it out” without the pressure of eating a full serving. Serve the meal with a few sides you know they will eat (fruit, milk, and bread with butter if they don’t do the noodles).
- Additions: If you want to add some vegetables INTO the dish, you could stir in some baby spinach at the end of cooking. It would add some green veggies, but not much in terms of flavor.

Description
Incredibly easy crockpot chicken and gravy recipe! Serve over egg noodles for major comfort food that the whole family will love.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs. chicken thighs, skinless and boneless
- .6 oz. packet dry Italian dressing mix
- 12 oz. jarred chicken gravy
- 4 oz. cream cheese, cut into cubes.
- 12 oz. wide egg noodles
Instructions
- Place chicken thighs in the bottom of a slow cooker and sprinkle with Italian dressing mix. Top with gravy and cubes of cream cheese.
- Cook on high for 3-4 hours or on low for 6-7 hours.
- Right before serving, prepare egg noodles according to package instructions.
- Lightly shred chicken and stir in melted cream cheese.
- Serve creamy chicken over egg noodles and top with freshly cracked pepper if desired.
Notes
- Storage: Store leftovers from this crock pot chicken in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. Reheat creamy chicken in a hot skillet or in the microwave until heated through.
- Ingredient notes: I recommend using boneless, skinless chicken thighs for the best flavor. You could also use boneless, skinless chicken breasts, but I prefer thighs as they have more flavor. If you prefer, you could also stir in a little sour cream or heavy cream at the end of cooking instead of using cream cheese. If using packets of chicken gravy, prepare as directed and use about 1 1/2 cups of prepared gravy.
- Helpful tools: A 6-quart slow cooker works best for this recipe size, and a whisk helps incorporate the flour slurry smoothly.
- Serve with: Mashed potatoes, egg noodles, rice, or cauliflower rice.

Besides the carb (egg noodles, rice, potatoes), you’ll probably want to add a green veggie on the side. Here are a few to try:
