Iced Matcha Latte
Looking for a cool and refreshing drink? The iced matcha latte is creamy, slightly earthy and grassy, and always beautiful and vibrant!

While the coffee shop version can be pricey or overly sweet, this homemade matcha latte is easy to make, foolproof, and totally customizable. Made with just a few simple ingredients, I love to finish it with some sweet cream cold foam, but feel free to skip it if you prefer.
Matcha is a finely ground powder made from shade-grown green tea leaves. It has long been celebrated for its vibrant green color and unique earthy flavor, which is typically either loved or disliked, but if you’re here, you must love it. My lavender matcha is a floral version that’s lovely as well.

What You’ll Love About Iced Matcha Lattes
- Creamy and refreshing
- Easy to make at home
- Ready in minutes
- Made with just 3 simple ingredients
- Customizable, you can make to your own preference sweetener-wise
- Save lots of $$$ by making it yourself
Ingredients
- Matcha – Use a high-quality, ceremonial-grade matcha powder like Rishi Matcha for the best flavor. Just as high-quality coffee beans will give you a superior cup of coffee, matcha is the same.
- Water – You’ll need hot water. Ideally, at around 175 degrees F if you are able to be that precise.
- Sweetener – Sweetener is optional and to your preference. Using a syrup or liquid sweetener doesn’t require any dissolving, but you could also whisk a powdered sweetener like sugar into the warm matcha until dissolved. You can also add liquid sweeteners like honey or maple syrup or syrups to the foam to add a touch of sweetness, which is how I love it.
- Milk – You have so many milk options! I love a matcha latte with almond milk, but you can use dairy milk, oat milk, soy milk, coconut milk, or any other milk alternative that you like.

Emily’s Tip
For a smooth, lump-free latte, sift the matcha powder before mixing and blend with a small amount of warm water first – this creates a smooth base and brings out the flavor.
How to Make Iced Matcha at Home
This is an overview, the detailed instructions can be found below in the recipe card.
- Sift matcha. Sift the matcha through a sieve into a mug or your matcha bowl to get rid of any clumps.

- Whisk matcha. Pour water over the matcha and use a bamboo whisk (or regular whisk), making an “M” shape until fully dissolved. Stir the sweetener into hot matcha if using so it dissolves.
- Add milk. Pour milk over ice cubes in a glass and top with matcha mixture, stirring if desired or letting the matcha and milk swirl together.

- Make cold foam. This is optional, but if you’re using it, make sweet cream cold foam with a handheld milk frother and pour over the cold matcha.
FAQs
Yes! Caffeine levels in matcha will vary, but one gram of matcha powder is estimated to have 19-44 mg caffeine per gram. The typical servings of matcha are about 1-2 grams (so let’s say 1.5 grams to keep it simple). A 1.5-gram serving would have between 28.5-66 mg caffeine. (Most matcha teas recommend mixing 1.5 grams of matcha with 8 ounces of water.)
This probably gets down to your personal preference, but the whole point of matcha drinks are to taste the matcha, so I will typically add a little vanilla syrup for an iced vanilla matcha latte, simple syrup, honey, or strawberry puree to balance out the earthy flavors.
Absolutely! Use your favorite milk alternative. I love almond milk with matcha, but use your favorite.
