5-Minute Hummus Toast

Looking for a new way to enjoy hummus for breakfast? Hummus toast it is! Just like my other toast recipes – avocado toast, peanut butter toast, and ricotta toast, this is all about ALL the different ways you can enjoy hummus on toast, with plenty of other toppings and additions. It’s less of a recipe and more of a mega list of ideas and inspiration. It makes for a nutritious 5-minute breakfast that’s loaded with healthy ingredients.

Hummus and Toast Topping Ideas

There are SO many topping ideas for hummus toast. This list certainly isnโ€™t exhaustive so feel free to make it your own, but it should get you started with a ton of ideas.

Basics:

  • Bread – Use artisan or sourdough bread for the best flavor or try a whole grain bread or sprouted bread if you want to add some more nutrition to the meal.
  • Hummus – Use any type of hummus you like – homemade hummus or store-bought. In terms of flavors, try traditional, red pepper hummus, black bean hummus, jalapeno hummus – anything goes.

Flavor: Oils, seasonings, drizzles, etc.

  • olive oil drizzle
  • balsamic glaze
  • toasted sesame oil
  • flaky sea salt

  • salsa or pico de gallo

Veggies: Great way to add in nutrition, texture, and color

How to Make Hummus and Avocado Toast

This is an overview on how to make hummus avocado toast, the detailed instructions can be found below in the recipe card.

Toast bread. You can toast bread in a toaster or place bread that is buttered or brushed withย olive oilย in a hot skillet until golden brown.
Prep ingredients. Cut avocado in half with a knife and carefully remove pit. Thinly slice with a knife. Thinly slice radish.
Assemble toast. Spread a thick layer of hummus on slice of toast and top with sliced avocado and sliced radish. Finish with a drizzle of olive oil, flaky salt, and freshly cracked pepper.

TIP: I like to choose one or two toppings from each category above โ€“ you can keep it super simple, mix-and-match flavors, or try one of the combinations below.

Here are some hummus toast combination ideas to get you started. They include everything from sweet (yes, sweet hummus is a thing!) to savory:

  • Dunkin Hummus Toastsourdough bread, hummus, roasted tomatoes (or try these roasted grape tomatoes!), Za’atar
  • Hummus Toast with Tomatoes – hummus, sliced tomatoes, olive oil, flaky sea salt
  • Cucumber – beet hummus, cucumber ribbons, olive oil, flaky sea salt
  • Mediterranean Hummus Toast – hummus, diced tomatoes, diced cucumbers, chopped kalamata olives, feta cheese crumbles, olive oil
  • Olive – hummus, ricotta, tapenade, freshly cracked pepper
  • Mexican โ€“ black bean hummus, lime juice, sliced jalapeรฑos, cotijia cheese, pepitas
  • Hummus Egg Toast – hummus, fried egg, everything bagel seasoning
  • Hippy – hummus, tomato, sprouts, hemp seeds

Absolutely! There is no reason that hummus for breakfast can’t be delicious and I think toast is the ultimate vehicle to make it happen.

Hummus toast vs avocado toast – what’s the difference?

Well, they are definitely different, though both totally delicious and nutritious. Hummus toast starts with a base of hummus (plus other toppings if desired) and avocado toast starts with a base of avocado (plus other toppings if desired) and because both are delicious, we’re combining the two in this hummus and avocado toast!

How many calories in hummus toast?

The calories in hummus toast will vary based on the bread, hummus, and the toppings. A basic toast with hummus with bread, hummus, and a drizzle of olive oil has around 300 calories, but again, can vary greatly based on what you make it with.
