5-Minute Healthy Breakfast Board for Kids
If you’re looking for new breakfast ideas for kids, we’ve got you covered with this quick, simple, and FUN mini breakfast board. It’s a nutritious and balanced breakfast, super tasty, and comes together in a matter of minutes, making it totally doable for busy weekday mornings. These are the important factors at our house when I’m coming up with new healthy breakfast ideas for kids and I know they are important to you, too!
While I always try to remind parents that their worth has nothing to do with what their kids eat or don’t eat, this quick and easy breakfast will make you feel like a kitchen queen (or king!). There’s something about taking the components and putting them out in a beautiful spread that really adds a special and fun touch to the meal and also puts kids in charge of what to eat, which can help them eat new and different foods. The parents are still in charge of the what to serve – so we’ve included a variety of nutritious and balanced foods.

This easy breakfast idea for kids is brought to you proudly in partnership with Jones Dairy Farm. Iโm excited to partner with them again this year because weโve used and loved their products for at least a decade now and they show up on our table week after week. (If youโve ever seen my Costco hauls, youโve seen me recommend their chicken sausages in BULK!)

What You’ll Love About This Kids Breakfast Board
- Looks so cute (and your kids will feel special)
- Easy to make in 5 minutes
- Made with simple ingredients
- Nutritious and balanced breakfast – we have protein, produce, and energy all covered
- Let’s kids decide what to eat (which is helpful in removing the battles around food)
Ingredients
- Jones Dairy Farm Chicken Sausage – This is the best chicken sausage out there and it’s precisely why we always have a bulk bag of it in our freezer, I don’t like to be without it. It’s made with simple ingredients (just five!) and each serving of sausage adds 10 grams of protein to your meal!
- Mini pancakes – Use your favorite mini pancakes or make your own. There are now whole-grain and/or organic mini pancakes if that is your preference. If you want to switch up the carb component, you could also use little pieces of toast or mini blueberry muffins.
- Syrup – Pour a bit of maple syrup or honey in a small bowl for dipping or a little pourer.
- Fresh fruit – I like to put 2-3 fruits on the board to make it feel extra-special and colorful, but you can get away with just 1-2 if that’s all you have. Berries are quick and easy, but you could truly use anything and use whatever is in-season. Grapes, kiwi, apples or pears, oranges or clementines – anything goes.
- Milk – I like to round out this meal with a glass of milk for some extra energy, protein, and fat but you could also serve with your favorite milk alternative or juice.

Emily’s Tip
Meals like this are a fantastic way to provide opportunities for your kids to explore and sample nutritious foods without any pressure. You’re deciding what to serve (which is the parents job per the Division of Responsibility), but ultimately letting them make the decisions on what to eat (the child’s job), which is so helpful and great practice for them to become lifelong healthy eaters.
How to Make This Quick and Easy Breakfast for Kids
This is an overview, the detailed instructions can be found below in the recipe card.
- Cook sausage. Cook according to package instructions. Pan-frying the sausage tastes best, but we also microwave them if we’re short on time.

- Prep other breakfast components. Heat pancakes according to package instructions and cut up fresh fruit.
- Assemble board. Place the components on a small board (cutting board or mini sheet pan will also work). Add a little flower if you have one!

Storage
This meal is best prepped right before serving. If you have leftover components, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 1-2 days.
How to reheat
Reheat sausages in the microwave or a hot skillet until heated through.
How to prep ahead
This breakfast comes together in just a few minutes, but if you want to prep ahead you could wash and thoroughly dry your fruit and thaw the breakfast sausage overnight in the refrigerator so they cook super fast!

My Favorite Hack for Feeding Kids Healthy Foods
One of my favorite “tricks” for feeding kids is to “provide the opportunity” to eat nutritious (and delicious!) foods. What I mean by that is instead of asking them if they would like sausage or fruit, I just put it out for them – without any sort of commentary or begging or bribes to eat certain foods.
That’s exactly what we’ve done with this board. They can ultimately decide whether they choose to eat the foods that I put out, but I’ve found that they do a great job of listening to their own bodies if we don’t try to get in the way.
