Ingredients
- Matcha – Use a high-quality, ceremonial grade matcha powder like Rishi Matcha for the best flavor. Just as high-quality coffee beans will give you a superior cup of coffee, matcha is the same.
- Water – You’ll need hot water. Ideally, at around 175 degrees F if you are able to be that precise.
- Sweetener – Sweetener is optional and to your preference. Using a syrup or liquid sweetener doesn’t require any dissolving, but you could also whisk a powdered sweetener like sugar into the warm matcha until dissolved. You can also add liquid sweeteners like honey or maple syrup or syrups to the foam to add a touch of sweetness, which is how I love it.
- Milk – You have so many milk options! I love a matcha latte with almond milk, but you can use dairy milk, oat milk, soy milk, coconut milk, or any other milk alternative that you like.

FAQs
Is an iced matcha latte healthy?
Matcha is similar to green tea (and technically it is green tea) but is prepared and processed in a different way. Matcha tea is touted to have health benefits like being high in antioxidants and other health-promoting compounds and many think that it is a gentler source of caffeine than coffee and won’t give you coffee jitters.
Does matcha have caffeine?
The short answer is yes, read this article for a deeper dive and more info.
Is matcha latte better hot or cold?
This is totally your preference! I enjoy both and order based on the season and temperature outside. Both hot and cold are creamy and earthy in flavor and it’s a delicious drink either way.
How do you make an iced matcha latte taste better?
Matcha does have a very distinct, grassy flavor which isn’t always a favorable quality, but it of course depends on your preference! I think adding a bit of sweetness to your matcha drink helps a lot. A coffee shop in my neighborhood that makes a strawberry matcha latte and it is delightful. And give the iced lavender cream matcha a try, it might convert you!
What flavors taste best with matcha?
Again, this probably gets down to your personal preference, but the whole point of matcha drinks are to taste the matcha, so I will typically add a little vanilla syrup for an iced vanilla matcha latte, simple syrup, honey, or strawberry puree to balance out the earthy flavors.
