Creepy & Cute Halloween Charcuterie Board

You are going to feel like a rockstar when you make this super fun Halloween charcuterie board! Filled with a great mix of sweet and savory, this is a gorgeous, but more importantly, delicious board that has some nutritious items as well as plenty of fun ones. It’s sure to make everyone happy and is the perfect addition to your Halloween party spread during spooky season or your next Halloween party.

Some of the charcuterie board ideas for Halloween are really over the top, but it was important to me that this not only looked good, but was also going to TASTE good so I used my typical formula for charcuterie boards, adding in some fun sweets, extras, and decorations to give it an understated Halloween feel, while still feeling like so much fun.

What You’ll Love About Halloween Charcuterie Boards

  • Looks gorgeous
  • A fun and understated theme
  • Easy to put together
  • Just 15 minutes to prep
  • Has something for everyone
  • Balanced with meat, cheese, produce, and sweets!

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Cheeses – I always recommend including three cheese varieties on your board. I always go with an aged gouda (it’s always a hit), but then you have a lot of options. You could keep it basic with a cheddar or go fancy and include a creamy brie or soft cheeses like goat cheese. Typically, you’ll want to include a few different textures – something aged, something creamy, and something basic but ultimately, choose cheeses you and your guests will love over any arbitrary “rules.”
  • Meats – Again, I like to go with three for a good variety. Salami and prosciutto are always musts on my board, and then I’ll fill in the third with something like… You can also find packages designed for charcuterie boards that have a few cured meats that will work well, which is what I used for this particular board.
  • Crackers – Water crackers are a must, so that you aren’t overpowering any special cheeses, and then I like to use a flatbread, but again, it’s more important to choose crackers that you like.
  • Produce – Fresh fruit and veggies are key to any good charcuterie board and we can use a little extra produce on Halloween! Green grapes, apple slices and apple dip, blackberries and oranges or clementines all work well and would be on-theme. Sliced cucumbers, baby carrots, and mini yellow or orange bell peppers are great veggie additions.
  • Sweets – Because this is a Halloween snack board, I had to include some Halloween candy! I found some fun Halloween cotton candy, and then I added something with color and chocolate-covered pretzels. These Halloween monster cookies or oreo truffle ghosts would also be cute and yummy additions.
  • Extras – Nuts and olives are also great additions on charcuterie boards so add these in if desired. Marcona almonds (try flavored ones!) will add an elevated flavor, but peanuts, walnuts, pecans, and even peanuts work well. A bowl of caramel corn or popcorn would also be a great addition.
  • Decorations – I loved adding some spooky decorations
mini bats and plastic spiders and a mini couldran to the board to add to the Halloween theme. Small pumpkins (real or fake), skeleton hands, candy corn, and candy eyeballs would all be fun additions.

5 Tips for the Best Festive Halloween Charcuterie Board

  1. Cut up any hard cheeses in small pieces or slices so they are easy to grab, and fold charcuterie meat into small pieces. I don’t actually want anyone cutting on the board pictured here, so all the cheeses that need to be cut are ready to eat. You could also put something like brie on a small plate to prevent cuts in your board. If you want to be EXTRA (in a good way), use small cookie cutters to cut out cheeses in Halloween shapes.
  2. Follow the 3-3-3-3-3 rule for charcuterie boards – 3 cheese, 3 meats, 3 crackers, 3 fresh items, and 3 extras or treats for the best variety of flavors.
  3. Slice or prep fruit or vegetables so they are ready to eat. I like to cut grapes into little sections of 2-3 grapes, or small clusters so they are easy to grab.
  4. Fill your board or platter FULL so that it looks nice and abundant. Fill in any empty spaces with extras.
  5. Garnish your board! Fresh herbs like rosemary add a nice color and texture to the board, but you can also use leaves and themed decorations like the Halloween-themed ideas above – eyeballs, spiders, bats, cauldrons, or other spooky snacks.

FAQs

What kind of board should you use?

There are a lot of options when it comes to charcuterie boards! You can use any cutting board, or a board designed for charcuterie, or use a sheet pan to hold everything together (helpful if you are traveling with it!), or even a piece of craft paper put down on a counter.

How much food do I need to put on my board?

This will depend on whether you are serving this as the sole appetizer or if it’s going to be part of a spread of appetizers. A general rule of thumb is about 2-3 ounces per person of the meats and cheeses for an appetizer portion.
