The Taster and I recently spent a Saturday afternoon on a taco crawl. It was SO much fun! We sampled tons of flavorful tacos, explored new neighborhoods and learned a few things on the way…
- Start the crawl early…I think 11am would be the perfect start time
- Bring a few bottles of water to hydrate between bites
- Fresh corn tortillas are nothing short of amazing
- Groups of 4 people or smaller – you should be able to drive together in a car
- Bring cash – a number of the places we visited only took cash
- Do not go on an ethnic food crawl if you need to know what every single ingredient is or if the meat is local or not. Just don’t.
- Don’t plan on eating afterwards! We foolishly made plans for sushi afterwards, but thankfully sushi is pretty “light” 🙂
- No matter how tempting, only order 1 taco per restaurant and better yet – share!
Now we’re looking for our next “food crawl” idea…

I’ve never heard of a taco crawl, but that sounds awesome! I would love to see something like that pop up in my area – ooh, or even a Pizza Crawl!
Emily
This wasn’t an organized crawl, just suggested stops on a food blog that I read, so you could definitely make your own. It was nice to know what was good at each place though.

I would also suggest a Pizza Crawl – yum!
Hyedi

This is such a good idea! I can only imagine where I could start in Chicago…Italian beef, pizza, guacamole… #6 is so true. Someone I know once visited Chicago and asked where she should go that was “true” Chicago. I told her Portillo’s. She asked if it was organic/grass-fed/local and I looked at her like she had 3 heads. Not. the. point. 🙂

Pizza, tamales, ice cream, donuts, mac & cheese, or my favorite…a cocktail tour!
luv what you do
What a fantastic idea!
I have a friend who did a Cupcake crawl. I love the idea of walking/driving and tasting all the best joints in town.

Hi Caitlin,
We followed this crawl: http://midtownlunch.com/los-angeles/2012/05/29/the-official-l-amidtown-lunch-2-hour-los-angeles-best-taco-tacos-mexican-crawl/
Our favorites were definitely Ricky’s (only fried fish or fried shrimp), Mexicali (Vampiro!), Guisados (Chicken Tinga) and Los 5 Puntos (Taco Sortida).

Fun! In Milwaukee, there is a place that does food tours. We did the bloody mary brunch tour, which was so much fun. Usually the tours focus on different neighborhoods in the city, so you are trying a lot of different things.
Emily
That sounds so fun! Did you stop at the Wicked Hop? They have an amazing bloody!

I love #3 and #6! 🙂 These tips are very helpful and now you have me thinking about what type of crawls I can create here!

Ugh. we need one of these in Philly or Jersey ASAP!
