You’ve got to try this Chicago Dog style hot dog! The Chicago Dog is “dragged through the garden” and comes with a ton of vegetable toppings.

I have this slightly odd obsession with hot dogs. Not that I eat them a ton, but I’ve got to have a few each summer, or it just doesn’t feel like summer to me. But not just any dog. All beef and with lots of toppings. In years past I’ve shared a recipe for the Giada Dog (an Italian twist), Tijuana Dogs (an LA staple), and Bahn Mi Dog (with Bahn Mi toppings!) which all include plently of delicious toppings, but this year I’m sticking a little closer to home with the Chicago Dog.
The Chicago Dog is sometimes described as being “dragged through the garden” because there are so many toppings. It’s definitely a messy sandwich, but I love all of the fresh flavors. And in my opinion of hot dogs: the more toppings the better!

Ingredients in a Chicago Dog
They vary a bit depending on who you talk to (like with any food folk lore, right?) but typically the ingredients in a Chicago Dog are:
- all-beef hot dog
- poppy seed bun
- sweet pickle relish
- pickle spear
- tomato slices or wedges
- chopped white onion
- sport pepper (hot)
- dash of celery salt
My chicago dog is more like a chicago-style hot dog. I didn’t have the peppers, celery salt ….AND probably the worst offense? I included ketchup on my dog. But I have a toddler and so ketchup is an essential requirement to just about anything.
PIN THE CHICAGO DOG FOR LATER!

So start with the above list, but most importantly, make the Chicago Dog your own.
