I’m pretty proud to say that I’m not super strict when it comes to meals and nutrition. I’ve always felt that people assume that because I’m a nutritionist that I never eat snack foods like Cheetos, or that I only eat desserts that are sweetened with honey.

WRONG! I eat anything and (just about) everything and I definitely don’t demonize foods that may not be as nutritious as others.

But if there’s one meal “rule” that I tend to stick to (most of the time at least!) it’s that all quick and easy dinners need a vegetable component to them. Our family tends to stick with basics and so I decided it was time to share them!

Can You Broil Asparagus?

You can absolutely broil asparagus and it’s a quick and easy dinner side dish. The great thing about broiling asparagus is that it cooks really fast, and it’s all hands-off.

How to Trim Asparagus:

It’s important to trim asparagus because the bottom stalk can be thick and woody and tough – NOT something you want to eat. The top portion of the asparagus is called the spear, and it’s the tender, edible portion.

You have a few options when it comes to trimming asparagus. The best way is to use your hands to snap off the bottom of stalk. If you bend the asparagus between your two hands (like the picture below!), it will break off in just the right spot.

You can also cut off the bottom of the asparagus stalk, but it’s much better to use your hands so that you can break it off at the correct spot.

How to Season Broiled Asparagus:

Broiled asparagus is delicious with a simple seasoning of olive oil, salt, and pepper, but feel free to add some more flavor to it! Some of my favorite seasonings for asparagus are:

  • Lemon pepper
  • Dried dill
  • Garlic salt
  • Parmesan
