9 Foods that are Feared by Almond Moms (and Dads)

These foods are a big no for the almond moms and dads out there. If you spend time on TikTok, you may have seen the term “almond moms” thrown around a bit. If not, it’s a simple way to describe a mom (OR dad though they don’t get as much of the credit) who is very into health, appearance, and nutrition/diet culture/restrictive eating. They raise their kids within diet culture rules that strictly categorize foods into good or bad, are very into maintaining physical appearance and the pursuit of thinness, and tend to do all of this under the guise of health.

According to The Independent, “The term stems from a 2013 episode of Bravo reality show The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, featuring star Yolanda Hadid and her then-teenage daughter, Gigi.

Gigi, who is now a model, told her mother over the phone that she was โ€œfeeling really weakโ€, having only eaten โ€œhalf an almondโ€.

In response, Yolanda advised the 17-year-old to โ€œhave a couple of almonds and chew them really wellโ€.

These are the foods that almond parents hate!

1. Non-Natural Peanut Butter

Peanut butter with tiny amounts of added fats AND sugar? Forget it. Pay no attention to the benefits that these peanut butters still have or that many people prefer the taste to the natural peanut butter made of 100% peanuts.

2. Sweetened Yogurts

Almond moms feel that the added fruit and sugar to flavored yogurts are completely unnecessary as you can sweeten it with honey and/or fruit.

3. Chips

Classic “junk food” as they like to call it, likening it to garbage. Hungry for something crunchy? Try some almonds.

4. White Bread

Where to start…processed grains, bleached flour, no fiber, lacking in vitamins and minerals?! It’s generally a no for the almond moms. Sprouted and/or whole grain is acceptable.

5. Candy

Halloween, Easter, and any other holiday that includes heavy doses of candy is scary – especially if their kids enjoy said candy!

6. Processed Foods

Even though virtually every food we eat is processed in some capacity, foods like Lunchables or uncrustables are seen as the biggest offenders in the processed food categories. Also see: white bread and peanut butter.

7. Juice

Doesn’t matter if it’s 100% juice or not….the SUGARRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!! Unless it’s a minimally-sweetened green or celery juice, it’s a no for almond parents.

8. Sweetened Cereals

These are not to be brought into the home under ANY circumstance. If it’s sweetened and colored with food dyes, don’t do it.

9. Ramen Noodles

This one is a triple-whammy as it’s processed, pasta, and it’s made with MSG which is another ingredient that is deemed bad, even though it’s naturally occuring in foods like tomatoes and cheese.
